Course Outline
The aim of this course is to develop knowledge and understanding of why they should engage with children and young people during policy development and service design.

Course objectives
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
• Describe the role and function of The Participation Network
• Explain the difference between participation and consultation
• List the elements of participation
• Understand how children and young people’s participation can benefit your work
• Understand the policy and legislative context of participation
• Identify the Indicators that a public authority is “developing a culture where the views of children and young people are routinely sought on matters that impact on them,” (OFMDFM, 2006) in line with your policy and legislative requirements
